The toolkit is intended to be used as a discussion tool by managers with practitioners who have the potential to undertake the mentor role.
The toolkit can be completed either electronically, by downloading the ‘toolkit completion form PDF’, or printing off hard paper copies.
Practitioners should read through and complete the toolkit before a 1:1 meeting with their manager, considering the six values and identify examples from their practice where they demonstrate these.
The practitioner and manager should then have an honest discussion to decide whether the practitioner can demonstrate the six values, understands the importance and value of the mentor role and is ready to commit to supporting learners at that point in time.
The practitioner and manager are required to complete and sign the final page of the toolkit completion form ‘evidence of completion’, a copy of which will need to be saved by both the individual and the manager for record keeping purposes and for evidence of continued professional development.
